opensolaris

I sure do wonder what the future holds for the solaris open source clone.. Now that they are being bought out by Orical.. Not that I use the system but curious on how things develop when corporations and money are involved.

just an afterthought .. what I mean is can the users hold that system up or will they let it fall?

last i read. the people at Sun Microsoft were going to continue it, i guess we will find out in there next release in November. I've notice that VirtualBox has had a lot of releases lately. It may be a good thing that Oracle bought them out maybe it will be like this. Redhat is Fedora's play ground... maybe Solaris will be OpenSolaris's play ground. right now, i can think of at least 5 distros that are based on Open Solaris. I thought the Downfall of OpenSolaris was its package manager and its slow response speed even on my 1.6Ghz with 2GBs of RAM also it didn't pick up my on-board ethernet cable. I also thought Foresight Linux package manager was slow, but at this point rPath is recommending that they look elsewhere for a pkgmgr.
